The believers

in Acts chapter 1

were told to wait.

“Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised.”

Cue

With a side of

  • Frustrated scoff

  • eye-roll (by me, anyway)

Enough of the theatrics for a moment.

Does anyone else feel like there’s an awful lot of waiting being done by believers since…well…forever? This hope we carry about what God is going to do with our lives here on earth feels like the line for the Peter-Pan ride at Disney World — really long and everyone’s supposed to be excited, but at the same time we’re all secretly wondering if it’s worth it (spoiler — the ride wasn’t, but Jesus is.)

The believers were told to stay where they were. And so they did. Then the day of Pentecost came. Not a particularly exciting day although it was significant. It was a day to commemorate God giving the Torah to Moses and the Israelites at Mount Sinai. Nothing extraordinary, at least not since the day it happened. They were just following the rules. Being obedient. Remembering.

SUDDENLY, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm…

Everything changed in that moment. Out of nowhere their lives would never be the same.

Anyone want some of that?
